Bots spamming sites, in 2016?

Seriously, I’m surprised this type of  black hat static is still in use. Some of the really interesting comments claim they’ll ‘increase the SEO of the site’ while using bad grammar and attempting to link back to their website. One of them even claims to do automatic SEO via a plugin “Now what if i told you there was a simple WordPress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That’s right AUTOMATICALLY” wow if only it was that easy. The comment also make it obvious that it is rubbish by trying to spam my page.

Another amusing thing to note is the comments on my post about the Tobacco Industry . There are actual bots advertising for Cigarettes in some hilarious ways.  Is anyone really going to believe that the following websites are hotels?

I’m curious as to why these bots are still in action. One possibility is that they were scripted when any back link resulted in a higher ranking. Another is that some black hat SEO agencies actually target their clients opposition in a bid to decrease their rank, it’s actually a smart move though highly unethical. It also posits a question to Google, can a company really be responsible for all its back links?
